Hill Guitar built a special guitar made entirely of woods that grow in Santa Cruz County or nearby.
A typical guitar generally contains woods gathered from four or five continents. As traditional guitar woods have become increasingly scarce and protected, a movement is growing among guitar makers to seek out quality materials from sustainable sources. With this instrument, Hill Guitar hopes to demonstrate the potential of some of the woods growing all around us to be used in the building of fine instruments
The guitar features black acacia back and sides, redwood top, bay laurel neck, walnut fingerboard, and sycamore bindings. The rosette design was inspired by the morning glory flowers and leaves that grow in abundance locally on backyard fences.
