The designs of old masters such as Hauser, Fleta, Torres, Rodriguez, and others insure results that have been tried and proven by generations of luthiers and concert artists. It is an intriguing challenge to study the details of these instruments, searching for minutia offering clues to methods, reasoning and instincts that produce the unique results from each builder's style.

Rodriguez

Miguel Rodriguez and family worked in the city of Cordoba in southern Spain from the early 1900s until the late 1970s. This guitar has a large, romantic Spanish sound, with power and vitality. It has five fan braces and a larger diagonal brace connecting the lower and upper bouts. It has laminated linings for the top and back with a unique reinforcement system for the sound board under the finger board, but it is otherwise a quintessentially Spanish 20th century guitar. This is a very lively and exciting guitar to play. Customer Reviews

Torres Model

Torres

Antonio de Torres established design principles setting the standard for virtually every guitar maker to follow him. People who own Torres guitars say he is still the best ever. Our Torres model comes from early in his career, modeled after FE 12. It has classic Torres bracing with the 7 bar fan, and a beautiful body shape slightly smaller than the current standard. The remarkable thing is that although the size is smaller, the sound is not. It is very strong, with singing highs solid, big chested bass. There is no compromise in sound. This guitar is well-suited for players with smaller hands or limited reach. Customer Reviews

Fleta

The design of Ignacio Fleta guitars is unique. He came from a violin making tradition, and some of his techniques clearly show that influence. Most notably he uses a dovetail joint for the neck instead of the traditional Spanish "integral neck" design. Also, the body is built heavily with several extra braces on the top and back, large neck and heel blocks, and the neck angle and bridge are rather high. Yet, for all of it's extra mass, this Fleta style guitar produces exceptional power and a deep, rich sustain for a muscular, full-voiced, concert sound. Customer Reviews

  • Back & sides: Indian rosewood
  • Neck: Spanish cedar
  • Fingerboard: ebony

Panormo Model

Panormo

Built in the style of Luis Panormo, an Italian born luthier working in London in the 1830's, this guitar is nicknamed "Cacahuate" or peanut, because of its distinctive shape. The volume and projection of this small guitar are quite astonishing, and the ease of playing is pure pleasure, attributable to the relatively short string length. This style of guitar construction is really the last evolutionary link leading up to Antonio de Torres and the emergence of the modern classical guitar.

  • Sound board: Select European spruce
  • Back & sides: Indian rosewood
  • Neck: Spanish cedar
  • Fingerboard: ebony
  • String length: 630mm
  • Tuners: Sloane
  • Finish: French polish
  • Base Price: $4000

Also available in maple and Brazilian rosewood.

Classic Crossover

The Classic Crossover is aimed at guitar players who are accustomed to the neck of a steel string, electric or arch top guitar, and want to play a fine nylon string guitar. The Classic Crossover is an excellent, concert grade, hand made nylon string guitar, featuring a narrower neck and cutaway. Most steel string players have never played a truly fine nylon string guitar, or if they have, the width of the classical neck can be uncomfortable for a non-classical player. The beauty of nylon strings is in the tone colors they produce, and the light weight construction and finesse of building bring these colors out. Customer Reviews
